Stuck
Do you ever just feel stuck? It's difficult to see the future and being able to plan or even dream has passed a long time ago. It's so easy to feel stuck in the caregiving grind. There's no way to see the future, and with each day's responsibilities and uncertainties, it can be hard to even think about how like my look - whenever.
But in the middle of the crazy, yet mundane lives we live - we can plan a few things.
I can plan to rejoice in my circumstances, even if they don't change!
I can plan to trust God with and through each new day He gives me.
I can choose to let His peace reign even in the darkest night of my soul.
Why can I make these types of plans? First off, they are safe and they don't even have a chance of being force canceled like events and outings. And secondly, we can make these choices no matter how stuck we feel - because we know how God has brought us through previous difficulties and circumstances.
In Psalm 63:7, David says because You have been my help, I will rejoice in the shelter of Your wings. Knowing what God has already brought us through gives way to trusting Him for today and beyond. We know He can give us peace, lift us up, and work out unimaginable difficulties - and we can trust that He will do it again! Just a few psalms over, in Psalm 77:11 - Asaph declares that he will remember the works of God from long ago I take that as he was encouraging himself in his present circumstances.
Maybe Asaph was in one of those familiar spots where he couldn't see God doing a thing. Verses 7-9 indicate that Asaph felt like God had moved away.
David was hiding in the wilderness and Asaph was surely in a tough spot too - it's not a pleasant or easy think to work through some of our feelings, is it? But both psalmists were able to look back at times in their lives when God did step in. He did rescue them. He did protect them and provide grace for the day. And they both used how God helped them in the past to encourage themselves that He would indeed help them again.
I don't know about you - but I'm in a spot - deep in the caregiver's cave and my view is somewhat obscured by the caregiver's fog... but I can look back at all God has done, how He rescued me, stood with me, miraculously provided for me - and carried me. I know that even though I feel stuck - God is not stuck and He will carry me through another day.
Today, I will trust Him for this day - because He's done it before! Will you join me?
