The Anchor Holds - ME!

Chris and i at Overholster trails

I love hearing my baby sister sing "The Anchor Holds." It's an older hymn that carries quite a punch and reminds us that no matter how strongly the winds of life blow - our anchor holds our ships in place. Hebrews 6:19 tells us that our hope in God is the anchor of our souls. It is indeed our hope in God that anchors our souls which have been ravaged by the storms life has brought our way. In Psalm 54:4, David declares that the Lord is the sustainer or keeper of his soul. Again, in Psalm 121:7 it reminds us that God preserves or keeps our souls. He's got us!

If (or since) God is the one keeping my soul, He is the anchor of hope my soul relies on - then there's nothing to fear. When we understand that God holds us, keeps us, sustains us and remains with us in the storms of caregiving, we can truly lay our burdens down and trust that He's got us.

Grabbing a hold of that hope has been one of the hardest things for me. I erroneously thought that if I had enough faith - "bad" things wouldn't happen. Life teaches us otherwise. Scriptures even teach us otherwise. Every one of our heroes of faith are our heroes because of the things they trusted God through. They are our examples to help remind us that the anchor continues to hold and God continues to keep our souls.

When I became a caregiver after my son's accident, it took me years to work through to find peace and hope. I was angry with God because He didn't "protect" my son. I soon found that faith didn't mean I wouldn't have to go through the fire, swim a raging river, or climb the rocky cliffs in life. Instead, I realized that God was there in every situation to be that anchor of hope for my soul - no matter what life hurled at me. It's kind of bigger than just avoiding all the hardships of life, don't you think?

Today, I will remind myself that the Anchor still holds. I will think about how that Anchor - holds ME! God didn't cast us out onto the seas of life and tell us "good luck" navigating them. He came with. And He sinks way down deep into solid ground to make sure our ships don't sink or get blown away in the storm. And sometimes- He comes walking to us in that storm and brings sweet peace to our souls. I will keep my eyes on Him today and trust Him for one more day. Will you join me?

Affirmations for Caregivers

Cover of Affirmations for Caregivers
I wrote Affirmations for Caregivers because it was what I needed to hear! This 31-day journal includes 31 scripturally based affirmations. Each day, the affirmation is followed by a short writing prompt and a verse or two to read. I also have videos on YouTube that coincide with each day's affirmation.

Here is an example from Day 16:

Day 16: I Am Embraced
Affirmation: I will find grace to help me in my time of need today. I will bring my cares, concerns, weaknesses, and needs to the throne of grace. I have an open invitation. God will meet me there with the grace I need for today. He is not afraid of my weaknesses, He embraces them and strengthens me by His grace.

Write an invitation to God inviting Him into your day. Then, write an invitation
from God inviting you to trust His strength and grace.

                            Read Hebrews 4:14-16
