Behind Door #3

One of the shows we enjoyed as a family when I was a kid was Let's Make a Deal, the one with Monty Hall. It was one of the trailblazers for "reality tv." People in the audience chose various deals and either made a lot of money, got a new car, or went home with nothing. In the worst deals, people got old goats or old worn out tires. It was fun to watch.

The final deal was offered to the three biggest winners of the day. They were presented with three doors and had to choose one, all trying to get the Big Deal of the day. But throughout the game, they were often presented with doors and offered the chance to trade what they had won, large or small, for the mysterious items behind the door. Once again, they had no clue and it might be a new car, a kitchen makeover, a trip to the Bahamas, or an old tire or broken washing machine.

Sometimes, my days feel like I'm staring down several doors and I'm not sure what's behind them. Caregiving forces choices that don't have obvious contents. We may walk into a situation and find great blessings. Or we may walk into some that wipes us out. It's like a version of Let's Make a Deal or emotional Russian Roulette.

In Psalm 31:7, David said that God knew his soul in adversities. David knew that God was sitting with him right there in that cave. David had no idea how everything was going to work out once he stepped out of the cave, but he knew that no matter what was "behind that door" God was going to be there to face it with him. I love that about David and I love that about God!

We can count on God's grace and mercy today! He is not scared of what's behind any door that gets opened or shut today. He's ready to face each of our situations and concerns with us today.

Today, I'll declare Psalm 31:6 with David. I will trust in You. I will remind myself that God is with me - he's got this situation covered in His mercy and grace. He's got ME covered in His mercy and grace. My meditations will be on how He undergirds me with His strength and I don't have to do this day - or any doors alone. He is with me. I can trust Him for one more day. Will you join me?
