Magic Buttons
Have you ever wanted to just give up? Who am I talking to - caregivers, of course, you have. But we just can't. Most of the time, we adjust, adapt, and advance. That can be good. That can be bad. Lol. I've been on the edge of giving up. Just tired really. I know you understand when I say that things just get a little (or a lot) wonky sometimes.
Caregivers can get emotionally strapped, financially busted, and overall exhausted. Sometimes we live there. Am I right? Well, that's where I've been the last few days and I'll spare you the gory details!
Just last night I was at my wit's end. Caregiver burnout? Caregiver fog? Caregiver who knows...? I've just been in the back of the cave. I had decided to give up on everything and crawl to the back of our proverbial cave, curl up in a fetal position, and just let "life" (whatever we have left called "life") pass me by. But then, this morning, I had this thought and it was quite literally like I pushed a magic button.
I was lying in my bed, sipping my coffee and trying to get my head around all that needs to be done today. I began going through my list of concerns and giving each of them to God individually. Then it dawned on me - not one thing in God's kingdom changed.
With that thought, I opened my Bible to Romans 8 to refresh my spirit and my mind with the consistency and constancy of God's love for us. My New Living Translation was nearest so I grabbed it and began reading only to find this phrase in verse 38. ...our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow...Man, does that sum up a lot of our caregiving struggles!
In that instant, I was able to roll it all back over on His broad shoulders and a huge sigh escaped my soul. We can trust that He has our "all this" covered today!
Today, I'll remind myself that God has already walked through today for me and He's going to swing back around to carry me through today too. My meditations will be on how He chooses to be present and isn't scared of the things that scare (or scar) me.I'm going to package up all my fears for today and worries about tomorrow and hand them over to Him and trust Him for one more day. Will you join me?
