Totally Underwhelmed
Have you ever been so overwhelmed you felt like you were peaking out from underneath your circumstances? And it's not all bad, right? There is so much that goes into one caregiving day, unless you've done it - you have no clue. There are so many decisions to make, which can be complicated mentally and emotionally since you are making choices for someone else. We all have a huge laundry list of things that NEED to be done. Do you ever find yourself sorting through your to-do list to determine which are the most important must-do-right-now tasks? Every day. Day after day. It's draining.
We can be so overwhelmed that we are underwhelmed. For me that often means checking out mentally. Yeah, that's the truth we are the true zombies. Lol. Well, we are doing our tasks but we feel numb. Some think we are the Energizer Bunny because we just keep going and going. But we know the truth about running on empty. Love and necessity are our driving forces - we just keep going.
Whether we identify with the cute pink, drumming bunny, or terrifying zombie, one thing is for sure. God gets us. And you know what's ever better than Him getting us? He stays with us. We'll never look up and realize He left us stranded emotionally, spiritually, or otherwise. I think He even understands how busy our days (and nights) can be. He won't get mad because we haven't talked to Him enough lately. God won't feel rejected and He won't "punish" us for being too busy to sit and study the Bible for hours. He knows that we can ride on the strength of a single verse for a whole week if needed! I love that about God.
No matter where we are spiritually, emotionally, even physically, God meets us there. He offers no condemnation and never starts a sentence with "...you should have..." He won't "should" on us! Instead, He undergirds, lifts us up, and gives us peace and grace for the day. He understands our overwhelm and underwhelm.
Today, I'll remind myself to give myself some grace. We have a lot on our plates and there's no room for self-condemnation. God will give us the grace and mercy to make it through today, our part is to just trust Him. I will trust that He is in my right here, right now. He won't walk away. The picture isn't too ugly for Him to look at. My overwhelming silence doesn't scare Him away, neither does my ranting and raving from soul pain. He is just here. And He loves me. I can trust Him for one more day, will you join me?
