Tired & Sleepy

Tired and sleepy are not the same thing. Some evenings, I am exhausted, but not sleepy. I don't like that combination, because my brain is still running 100 miles per hour but my body says, no. It's totally unproductive. But when I am tired and sleepy, I am totally useless. My body is down for the count and it will not rise until it has to, if I'm lucky enough for a quiet moment.

Yesterday, we talked about how God never sleeps. He watches over our souls constantly and intently. He's intimately connected to us and is invested in our care. But He also doesn't get tired of doing it. I can imagine not getting sleepy - I actually have a love-hate relationship with sleep. I do NOT like wasting the time, but my body insists. Lol. God doesn't get sleepy or tired!

Psalm 121:4 says the One who watches over us will not sleep and will not get tired.

He loves to watch over His children and never gets tired of doing it. In Isaiah 40:28 the prophet reminds us that God never grows weary. This is good news. Why? Because we know that He is in it for the long haul. But there's more. He also doesn't get tired of us getting tired. I love that about God.

We can open our hearts toward Him in prayer day and night, time and time again, and He will always welcome us with open arms. You'll never hear Him say, I just can't with you right now. Lol. He won't shake His head or turn His back to walk away. He doesn't get tired - of us.

I am so thankful that God stays connected through the thick and thin of our caregiving lives. People get "used" to our "new norms" and they go on with their lives. Yet here we are stuck in caregiving - not that it's a burden, it's just our lives now and others just don't get it. God does "get it." He gets us. And He stays - never growing tired of our caregiving craziness. He'll even join us in our caregiver's cave when we feel the need to retreat emotionally. And He won't whine, shrug His shoulders or shake His head in disgust. He just joins us on our journeys.

Today, I'll remind myself that God has not gotten tired of this ride. He is still right here with me as I hold on for dear life. My meditations will be on how He simply doesn't get tired of being with me. He remains in the smooth parts of the journey and when it gets rougher. God is a constant companion we can trust for today.
