My "Oh My Gosh!" List

me worshipping God in the hospital with Chris

Do you have an "Oh, my gosh!" list? I'm pretty sure everyone has one whether they are a caregiver or not. It's the list of things that are staring you down right now. That can be a lot of things, especially those of us, like caregivers, who are walking through particularly difficult times. The list may grow because things get added to it, and we may even take a thing or two off when the particulars are solved. But the list never goes away. There's always something that brings on that heavy sigh. Things that make us think, Oh, my gosh.

Maybe for you it's a not again list. Whatever you call it, it's stuff that has just piled up. Maybe it was slowly over time and now you feel the pressure of being underneath the load. Or maybe it's things that you suddenly woke up to this morning. Well, I'm discovering that no matter what we call our list or how many things are on it - God is still in control. He has never lost a battle. And He is still in the mix.

This morning, I spent my private devotional time in two passages. David wrote Psalm 59 when he was literally surrounded by a physical enemy. Saul's army was sitting outside his house just waiting for him to come out so they could capture him. What an Oh, my gosh! moment that would be. But David said in verse 16, but I will sing of Your strength. He was determined to run to God in that moment. He didn't sing of how he killed Goliath or won all his battles to date - He turned to God and sang about His strength.

The second passage is in 2 Kings 6. Elisha is being chased by the Aramean army. They have found him and overnight, they moved in and surrounded the house. They want to take him to King Aram who wants to kill the prophet. Elisha's servant got up the next morning and went outside to see the army camped all the way around them. He ran to tell Elisha. Maybe in my imagination, the servant started with, Oh, my gosh, Elisha - there's a whole army surrounding us! What an Oh, my gosh! list! Lol.

Elisha wasn't moved at all. In fact, he prayed that God would open the servant's eyes. When He did, the servant saw the army of God surrounding the army of the enemy. Oh that I could learn to look past my enemies and focus directly on God like the main guys in these two stories!

No matter what is on our "Oh, my gosh!" list today - God is bigger. God is stronger. He is capable of delivering our souls again today, even if He just did it yesterday!

Today, I purpose to stare my enemies and everything on my Oh, my gosh list in the eyes and sing about the glory of God. Things are tough for so many right now - But our God is tougher. He is still capable, still powerful, still on the throne and He ain't moving. I will encourage myself by reminding myself that no matter what is going on in my life - God is still the same. The Kingdom is not shaking even if I am. I will rest in the truth that God is still God and He's got me no matter what. My meditations will be thinking about how I'm still in His capable hands and He will not loosen His grip of grace. I will remind myself that I can trust Him for one more day. Will you join me?
