Prioritize? It's ALL Important!

Mr. Personality himself! lol

I love reading and I really enjoy self-help books. Maybe it's because they are a cross between learning and doing life better. There are a lot of really good books and I've read a bunch of them! I've also been listening to some great motivational podcasts. One common thread and term has to do with setting goals and prioritizing. I'm like, really? When you are standing there staring down 5 important things that need to be done now (or yesterday), how do you choose? Ugh!

It's easy to go into emotional shutdown mode when there is too much that has to be done all at once. Time to sit and stare and drink another cup of coffee. Eventually, I'll figure out a place to start and get it all knocked out - maybe. But it can be such a sense of overwhelm that it's almost paralyzing. Or mostly paralyzing. I find myself going back to covering just the basic needs of my son and hoping it all pans out. I know it will. I even know I will survive. It's the rocky path to get there that causes me the most concern.

Caregiving can be such a blessing. But it is also a gut-wrenching journey. There are joys in the middle of the grief. Sorrow in the middle of small celebrations. (I count every single win double no matter how small!! That may just be making it through the day with my sanity in check. lol) There is a mixture of emotions that we deal with. And God is always in the mix. Just like many of our tasks are equally important - God sees that our emotional needs, physical needs, spiritual needs, and our souls are all important to Him. He cares about every single one of us and every single one of our situations.

Not one of us is more important than the other - and we are ALL important to God. He is with each of us up close and personal. Aren't you glad He never tells you to wait until He gets done with all my stuff before He'll come see about you? Sounds silly, huh? He doesn't consider any one of our situations more important or more weighty or more deserving of His attention than another. He helps us all. He keeps all our souls and His heart never gets too full to pick up one more thing! I love that about God.

Today, I'll remind myself that God is right here with my overwhelmed soul, and He is still my help! I'll think about how all my trivial stuff - the little stuff that weighs so much - is important to Him because it's important to me. I may even tell myself that in those moments when I feel like I'm about to lose it all - I am His priority! I'll be thankful that He meets me right where I am every single time. I know I can trust Him for one more day. Will you join me?

Cover of Affirmations for Caregivers
I wrote Affirmations for Caregivers because it was what I needed to hear! This 31-day journal includes 31 scripturally based affirmations. Each day, the affirmation is followed by a short writing prompt and a verse or two to read. I also have videos on YouTube that coincide with each day's affirmation.
