Time-Tested
In yesterday's post, we talked about how His grace is sufficient for us even when we feel insufficient. Of course, we get the principle from Paul's discourse with God in 2 Corinthians 12. Paul was begging God to take away what was troubling him. God did not. Instead He assured Paul that His grace was more than enough to carry Paul through his latest trials; and he had a lot of them!
As I went through the day thinking about some changes I'm making and how life is going right now, I had to keep going back to this truth. God's grace is enough for me today. He's got me right here, right now. His grace isn't going to run out today! These are things I encouraged myself with throughout the day yesterday.
I kept thinking of a song we used to sing, I'm sure it's still on the radio from time to time. It's a Chris Tomlin song More than Enough. Last night once I had a chance, I went to find the chords in one of my music notebooks. But the notebook I needed was on the bottom of a stack. My neice and I had recently looked through some of my grandmother's poems together. Much to my surprise there was a handwritten song sitting right on top of the pile. Guess what the title was....His Grace is Sufficient. My grandmother has been gone for nearly 60 years so it's safe to assume it was written over 60 years ago.
I picked up the time stained paper and read and reread the poem. Let me share it here as it's obviously been tested by time! I guess she knew that verse too! Lol.
His Grace is Sufficient
I. Many times I'm tried and tested
As I travel day to day
And oft I meet with pain and sorrow
And there's trouble in my way
But I have that sweet assurance
That my soul the Lord will keep
And in Him there is grace for every need
Chorus: Oh! Yes His grace is sufficient for me
And His love is abundant and free
An Oh what joy fills my soul
Just ot know, Just to know
That His grace is sufficient for me
II. Now when the tempter brings confusion
And I don't know what to do
Then on my knees I just turn to Jesus
For I know He'll see me through
Then despair is changed to victory
Every doubt just passes away
For in Him there is grace for every day.

Time tested for sure. I hope you are as encouraged by this relic of the past as I was. It looks like God's all-sufficient grace reaches back decades and centuries. It reaches all the way back to my grandma and to Paul. It must be a real thing then, right?
Today, I will remind myself of those who have gone on before - those who knew how to take hold of God and not let Him go. I'll think about how His grace has always been enough and today is not the day it's going to run out! Today, I'll work on packaging up my fears, thoughts, anxieties, worries, and doubts and turning them over to Him for safe keeping. Then I'll sit back and let Him carry them - and carry me as I trust Him for one more day. Will you join me?
