When Nobody "Gets" It

Kyrie and her Uncle Chris at the park in Norman

I am not sure anyone but caregivers "get" our responsibilities. Sometimes, we don't "get" it ourselves. We can hear a lot of voices - and not in the crazy way, either! Lol. People condemn us for so many different things and just really don't understand our position as chief caregivers. And that's okay, they don't need to understand. But the fact that they don't want to can sting a little bit, am I right?

The healthcare system is making financial cuts and simply does not care about the particulars of our situations. That, and many other circumstances, can leave us feeling stranded emotionally and sometimes literally. But it's all good, right?

My thoughts are running along this line due to a series of events, for one. I don't need to explain to you how crazy it can get around here! Lol. Secondly, I was rereading the story of David and Goliath this morning to prepare for my morning Facebook Live devotions. David had so many voices (negative ones) coming at him, yet he was able to shake it all off and literally run toward Goliath and the Philistine army standing behind him!

But before he arrived out in the field for the actual battle, there was a huge battle for his soul and his mind.

  • (1 Samuel 17:21) As he came close to the encampment, he heard the Israeli army getting ready for the battle and shouting as they prepared.
  • (1 Samuel 17: 23) He heard Goliath come out and spew his hateful words toward the Israeli army.
  • (1 Samuel 17:25) David heard the soldiers talking about the wonderful gifts the person who could defeat the giant would receive from the king. He camped there a bit and kept asking about that to be sure it was accurate!
  • (1 Samuel 17:28) David heard his older brother, Eliab, demeaning him and asking about where his few little sheep were. Trying to put him in a box. Which is interesting since Eliab was standing and watching when Samuel anointed David as the next king of Israel. Maybe he should have played those cards a little smarter! Lol.
  • (1 Samuel 17: 33) David heard Saul tell him, You are not able to fight the giant who has been a warrior since his youth.
But David didn't listen to any of them. He RAN to the battle and explained to Goliath and the Philistine army gathered behind him that God was going to win this battle! And He did!

We can have a lot of voices coming at us trying to discourage us. Some try to condemn our choices. Many fail to see the importance of our roles and the burden it puts on our hearts. Sometimes, they don't want to see us. Maybe it's easier for them if they just look the other way. But God never looks away!

Today, I'll remind myself that God is all in for us and on our behalf. He won't walk away, run away, or wish He was somewhere else. He pulls up a chair beside us and continues to remind us that He's got us. That He gets us. Our lives don't make Him want to look away. Instead, He desires to walk this rocky journey with us, holding us, carrying us, just being with us. It's what He wants to do! I'll be thankful that He doesn't look away or run away, but just remains with - day in and day out. I'll be thankful as I trust Him for one more day. Will you join me?
