What's the Point?

chris finding himself in the mirror

Did you ever wonder why God had the Children of Israel build a tabernacle while they were traveling through the wilderness? I mean, really. Didn't they have enough going on already? Lol. They have left Egypt and slavery behind. God is leading them with a cloud by day and a fire by night. He's dumping manna on them each morning. And they are traveling. And traveling. And traveling. Yet, God gave Moses the specific plans to build a tabernacle. My mind says, "Yeah, one more thing to carry with us!" (That's sarcasm in case you didn't recognize it!)

They had to cut down trees, and not just any trees, specific trees for the various components of the Tabernacle.

They had to weave cloth together, and not just any cloth, specific types of cloth were used for the various elements.

They had to make gold utensils and silver utensils. And they had very specific instructions.

God even provided them with instructions on how to load it all up when it was time to move again, as well as how to take it apart and set it back up once they reached the new destination.

Why all the extra work? Wasn't walking with a crowd through the wilderness enough without adding so much more to their days?

I know why. He wanted them to make room for His presence right there in the wilderness. Right there on the hardest journey of their lives. He wanted them to know He was with them.

No doubt, caregiving is the most challenging journey many of us have had to walk. It's tiring. It's hot. It's difficult. It's lonely and it's easy to miss what our lives used to look like, even if it wasn't all that great either! lol. But God still wants us to make room for Him in our wilderness. He wants to walk through it with us. I love that about Him!

Today, I will remind myself that God wants to be in my crazy caregiving day. In fact, He wants to remind me (us) that He doesn't want to miss a moment. My meditations will be on how He stuck it out with those complaining, arguing, sometimes maddening, Children of Israel. That will encourage me that He will stay with me even when life is ugly and when I am acting ugly. He still wants to be here! He wants us to make room for Him in our busy, busy days. And that's just what I intend to do today, as I trust Him for one more day. Will you join me?
