Just Don't Say It!

Aunt Polly and Chris

Do you ever have a series of days that just seem harder than others? It's kind of crazy, isn't it? Caregiving is hard - period. But some days just hit harder and drag you further down than others. There are days that just feel like your soul is being sucked out slowly, so you can experience every sigh, moan, and cry from deep, deep within. I think maybe Paul explained it well in Romans 8:26, when he used the phrase, groanings that cannot be uttered. There are some things, there just aren't words for. But that's okay, because we really can't "say" it anyway.

Have you ever had your feelings leak out a little? Maybe you “accidentally” told a trusted friend how tired you were. Or maybe you mentioned to a family member that your emotions were running thin and life was just cloudy. Yeah. I've made those mistakes too. LOL. We usually get the "you know you need to take care of yourself first" speech. Yeah, that really helps, doesn't it? (hint of sarcasm there)

Seriously, it's like if we were to truly express how we feel most days it makes everybody else too uncomfortable. So, it's better to just not say it. We're not likely to get any help anyway - just suggestions about resting, asking for help, taking a break, or going easy on ourselves. Smh

We may be tired...

We may be exhausted... and running on emotional fumes...

We may be at the end of our proverbial rope...

Our strength may be gone...

Maybe we don't have answers to the big questions life throws at us...

If you're like me, you don't even have anyone to ask if you need help! Right?

We can feel anything we want - we just can't say it.

I am so glad that God doesn't want us to suppress our real feelings and emotions just so He'll feel more comfortable about it. Instead, we are encouraged to pour out our hearts before Him. Psalm 62:8 says to Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. This verse has no exclusions like, pour it all out, except for the part that makes others uncomfortable. Or just don't mention that you are tired, sick, at the end.... etc... We are encouraged to pour out our hearts before Him and leave it all laying right there at the foot of His throne. Let His heart absorb ours...because He wants to "get" us.

Today, I will make Psalm 62:8 my meditation. As pain, sorrow, exhaustion, or anything else begins to rise in my heart, I'll remind myself that I'm invited to lay it at His feet - Peter reminds us to cast our cares on Him - and let Him care for us. That's my goal today, even if I don't have words, I will remind myself that He hears every silent cry and has words for every deep sigh that arises from my soul. So, I know I can trust Him with one more day. Will you join me?
