Reverse It!

Chris and I at Bluff Creek Trails

Loss comes in many forms, and caregivers have their fair share of it. Sometimes, we are caring for a loved one who is slowly slipping away, and no longer the person they used to be. It's a slow, agonizing journey to lose someone a piece at a time.

For others, maybe the loss was sudden, but we continue to work through it day after day, never quite recovering, but always reaching back for "normal."

Many caregivers lose their lifestyle, and some their freedom. It's definitely not the life we dreamed we'd be living, right? We didn't plan it. It wasn't our goal to be right here right now. Yet here we are, clinging to hope day after day.

It would be easy to sit down and list our losses; there are a lot of them, for sure! But this week, I decided to turn that around. I started thinking about some things we cannot lose. For instance, no one can take our salvation from us. Jesus bought and paid for our redemption, whether we ever realize it or not - and it cannot be reversed. The enemy cannot take our righteousness, our salvation, our redemption, or our peace. Jesus said He was giving us His peace (John 14:27). All the enemy can do is try to talk us out of it! But he can't make God take it back! Lol.

There's no way to turn off God's grace (which is always enough, 2 Cor. 12:9). And there's no expiration date on God's mercies (which are renewed just for us each and every day! Lamentations 3:23).

Let's look at this passage in Lamentations 3. It says it like this in the NLT:

The thought of my suffering and homelessness is beyond words.

I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.

Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:

The unfailing love of the Lord never ends!

By His mercies we have been kept from utter destruction.

Great is His faithfulness.

His mercies begin fresh with each new day.

Today, as losses try to close in and rob me of my peace of mind, I will remind myself of the things I cannot lose. I'll think about how God's mercy, His grace, and His love don't weaken over time and there's no chance they'll run out today! My meditations will be on how God doesn't shun me because of my grief. He comes to me in my grief and sings His peace over my soul. I believe I can trust Him for one more day. Will you join me?
