Double Time

Chris and his uncle Dean

Do we really understand who God is? Do we know all He has done for us? I've taken a look or two through the first couple of chapters of Ephesians lately, and there are tons of things He's done for us and provided for us. I wonder if we miss some of it sometimes. That doesn't mean it's not ours. It doesn't mean we don't have it. We just may not reap the benefit of some things because we don't know it belongs to us.

Have you ever had a long-lost relative? One you either didn't know you had, or for whatever reason, you were separated early on? Just because you don't know them, doesn't mean you are not related. God has provided for us in so many ways, we miss some things, though, because we simply do not know we can tap into them.

This is where my mind went as I continued in Psalm 9 this morning. Verse 10 says, those who know Your name, will trust You. For You have not forsaken those who seek You. When we know Him - we will trust Him. When we continue to seek Him, we'll realize that He is always in our “here.” He has nowhere else to go and nothing better to do than hang out with us, waiting on us to trust Him.

In verse 9 of Psalm 9, the psalmist reminds us that the Lord is a refuge in times (uh oh, plural) of trouble. Since “times” is plural, we may experience trouble more than once in our lives. But that's okay - because God is up for it every single time! If it said, "time" of trouble, we'd only get one shot. LOl. Thank God He doesn't abandon us when life gets complicated, ugly, or hard.

Nahum 1:7 runs parallel to these verses in Psalm 9. Nahum says that the Lord is a stronghold in the day (singular?) of trouble and that He knows those who trust in Him. He knows those who trust Him. He knows those who know His name, and He knows those who continue to seek Him. He knows us!

An old song comes to mind - Oh what a savior! Oh Hallelujah! What a glorious God we serve. He knows when our hearts are bound to His. What a glorious God we serve. Unlike the other “gods” of this world, who don't have a clue that their “worshipers” are trusting in them. Unlike other "gods" in this world, our God hears us. He is our refuge by choice! I love that about Him, don't you?

Today, I'll remind myself that God knows when I trust in Him, and He knows when I falter. Whether I feel strong or weak, He remains with me and continues to strengthen me, because He knows my choice is to trust in Him. I'll meditate on how He continues to cover me or carry me, whichever is needed, because He knows my heart is toward Him, even when it doesn't quite look like it. He's got me and I know I can trust Him for one more day. Will you join me?
